A 46-year-old man died today (November 28) during an on-the-job accident at a Carrara quarry. It happened after the miner finished cutting a block of marble together with another worker, his brother. The slab, weighing two tons, unexpectedly cracked open and fell on him.
Trade unions have called a general strike for November 29 as a statement for the need to adopt safety precautions and measures in the quarries of the Apuan Alps. Minister Dario Franchescini also cancelled his scheduled speech in Carrara today, which would have been on the topic of supporting the December 4 referendum to change the Italian constitution, specifically regarding the legislatures of the federal government.
