Tuscan Cultural Sites & Museums Reopen after Covid Shutdown

 

The Medici Villa at Cerreto Guidi

After several months of closure imposed by Covid restrictions, the region of Tuscany has reopened most of its cultural sites during the month of May.  Beginning  the first week of the month, museums, parks, archaeological sites, historic gardens as well as the Medici villas are newly accessible to the public.  Listed below are the sites and their opening hours.

PROVINCE OF FLORENCE

Cerreto Guidi (FI) Medici Villa.  Open Tuesday through Sunday and the 1st and 4th Monday of the month.  Admission times only at 9, 10, 11 am, 12 noon, 3, and 4 pm.

AREZZO

Basilica of San Francesco and the Legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesca. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 7 pm (not accessible from 10:30 to 11 am for a religious ceremony), Saturday 9 am to 6 pm, (not accessible from 10:30 to 11 am) and Sunday from 1 to 6 pm.

National Archaeological Museum GC Mecenate.  Open Tuesday and Friday at 9, 10:30 and 12, Thursday and Saturday 2:30, 4 and 5:30 pm and 1st and last Sunday of the month at 2:30, 4 and 5:30 pm.  Admission only at times indicated.

Anghiari (AR) Museum of Art and Tradition of the Alta Valtiberina (Palazzo Taglieschi).  Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 2 pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Castelfranco Piandisco (AR) Abbey of San Salvatore in Soffena.  Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:15 to 6:45 pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:15am to 1:45 pm, 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month 9:15 am to 1:45 pm, 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month 9:15 am to 12:45 pm and 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 8:30 am to 1:45 pm.

Cortona (AR) Sodo Archeological Zone.  Open daily from 10 am to 1 pm and 3 to 6 pm.

GROSSETO

Archeological Zone of Roselle.  Open daily from 9:45 am to 6:45 pm.  Ticket office open from 9:45 am to 1 pm and 2:30 to 6 pm.

Archeological Zone of Vetulonia in Castiglione della Pescaia (GR).  Open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 am to 6:45 pm.

Orbetello (GR) National Archeological Museum and Ancient City of Cosa.  Open daily from 9:45 am to 6:45 pm.  Ticket office open from 9:45 am to 1 pm and 2:30 to 6 pm.

LIVORNO

Portoferraio (LI) National Museum of Napoleonic Residences. 

Palazzina of the Mulini.  Open Monday and Thursday from 2 to 6:30 pm, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9 am to 1:30 pm (last entrance 1 pm).

Villa San Martino.  Open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9 am to 1:30pm and Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 6:30 pm (last entrance 6 pm).

Rosignano Marittimo (LI) National Archeological Museum of Castiglioncello.  Open Saturday from 4 to 7 pm and Sunday and holidays from 10 am to 1 pm.

LUCCA

National Museum of Villa Guinigi.  Open Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 7:30 pm, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 12 to 7:30pm and the 1st and 3rd  Sunday of the month from 9 am to 7:30 pm (last entrance 6 pm).

National Museum of Palazzo Mansi.  Open Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 7:30 pm.  (Last entrance at 6pm.)  Admission only at 9, 10, 11 am and 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pm.  Wednesday, Friday and Saturday open from 12 to 7:30 pm with admission at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pm (last entrance 6 pm).  1st and 3rd Sunday of the month open 9 am to 7:30 with admission at 9, 10, 11 am and 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pm.

PISA

The Cathedral, Baptistery, Leaning Tower and other monuments in the Piazza dei Miracoli.  Open daily between 10 am and 6 pm; reservation necessary for weekend visits (tel. 050/ 835011 or 050/835012 from 9 am to 1 pm, 3 to 6 pm or send an to email bigliettionline@opapisa.it).

National Museum of Palazzo Reale.  Open Monday, Wednesday, Friday with admission only at 9, 11 am and 3, 5pm, Saturday open from 9 to 11 am.

Calci (PI) Monumental Certosa (Charterhouse) of Calci.  Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday with admission only at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday admission only at 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pm.

PISTOIA

Fortezza of Santa Barbara.  Open Sunday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Former Church of the Tau (Marino Marini Museum).  Open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Oratorio of San Desiderio.  Open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Monsummano Terme National Museum of Casa Giusti.  Open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm and 3 to 6 pm.

PRATO

Carmignano (PO) Archeological Zone of Comeana:  Montefortini and Boschetti.  Open Thursday from 10am to 1pm, Friday from 3 to 6 pm.  In May the Tumulo di Montefortini will be open also Saturday the 22nd, Sunday the 16th and 30th from  3 to 6 pm.

Poggio a Caiano (PO) Villa Medici.  Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the month 8:15 am to 5 pm (last entrance 4:30 pm).

SIENA

Pinacoteca Nazionale.  Open Friday, Saturday, Sunday (1st, 3rd and 5th of the month), Monday and midweek holidays from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 7 pm, with ticket office closing at 6:30 pm.

Villa Brandi.  Open by reservation only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays by writing to:  drm-tos.villabrandi@beniculturali.it

Chiusi (SI) National Etruscan Museum. Open Monday through Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm with ticket office closing at 7:30 pm.

Monteriggioni (SI) Hermitage of San Leonardo al Lago. From May 28 open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
