Coming around the last bend on the track in Piazza del Campo, jockey Jonathan Bartoletti (know as “Scompiglio”) on “Precious Penelope”–bareback as tradition dictates–overtook Giovanni Atzeni (known as “Tittia”) riding Quadrivia for Nicchio to win the June 2 Siena Palio for Lupa. The last time that the Siena neighborhood of Lupa had won was in 1989. To see a photo gallery, see Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
