A Pisa firemen team rescued five Labrador puppies that were thrown from a bridge about five metres (15 ft.) below the rail line linking Saline and Volterra on Oct. 3 (see Repubblica’s photo gallery). They were alerted by a group of people that were walking along the road and heard the puppies barking. It wasn’t easy locating the dogs’ whereabouts due to the thick vegetation that was surrounding them. The puppies are now safe and have been taken to the kennel in Lajatico. (karen gee)
