
Friday, April 18, 2025: HISTORICAL PROCESSION AND REENACTMENT OF THE PASSION OF CHRIST, Grassina. 9:15 pm (suggested arrival: 7:30 pm). Bus 31 from San Marco; free parking is available in Grassina (arrive early). There is a free shuttle from the Redi school parking lot to Grassina from 6 pm to midnight. .Tickets can be purchased at the event at eight different kiosks: admission ranges from €5 to €20 for standing room or seats at Calvary scene. In case of rain, the event will take place on Monday.
The streets of Grassina will be transformed into the avenues and alleys of Jerusalem Grassina’s ‘Rievocazione Storica’ Good Friday Passion Play 2025 as 500 participants in historic costume represent the Romans, Pontius Pilate, centurions and soldiers, and the Jews, King Herod, Pharisees, priests and locals. The anguished Christ, as well as the two thieves who were crucified alongside him, are on their crosses on a a nearby hill crowned with olive trees and oaks, Golgotha, where the procession is moving towards.
The Good Friday pageant, accompanied by color, sound and lights, provides a dramatic beginning to the Easter weekend. Concurrently on Calvary hill, the reenactment of the birth and scenes from the life of Christ are portrayed, ending with the Crucifixion. The event this year will feature a tableau vivant (a living picture or a representation of a painting by a group of people silent and motionless) of a work by Giotto,” found in Scrovegni Chapel of Padua.
