Four Tuscan Pizzerias Among the Top 100 in the World

Four Tuscan pizzerias are ranked in the top 100 best in the world according to a recent announcement by the 50 Top Pizza Guide. They are: Apogeò in Pietrasanta (#31), run by Massimo Giovannini;  O’ Sgugnizzo in Arezzo, which is a family run business whose members hail from the province of Salerno, below Naples (#55); Santarpia (#61) located in Florence at via Senese 155 r (Due Strade), where pizzas are made by owner Giovanni Santarpia, a native of Castellammare di Stabia in the province of Naples; and Pizzeria Chicco in Colle Val d’Elsa (#83), which belongs to Stefano Canosci.  Giovanni Santarpia also makes pizzas for the garden location of ‘Al Fresco’ at Florence’s Four Seasons Hotel.

There is a tie for first place between two pizzerias in the region of Campania, one in Naples and the other in nearby Caserta; second place went to a pizzeria in New York.
