The 20th edition of ‘Eroica’ bike race, which takes place exclusively on unpaved country roads in the Tuscan countryside, was held on October 2, 2016. Amateur bikers had a choice of riding the 209k (130 mile), 135k (84 mile), 75k (47 mile) or the 46k (28 mile) route in addition to the new “Gallo Nero” (named after the 300th anniversary of the formal recognition of “Gallo Nero” Chianti Classico wine) 125k (77 mile) route. The starting line was in Gaiole in Chianti and many of the roads wind through scenic rural areas in the province of Siena. To see a photo gallery, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
