Discover Chianti Wines at the Expo del Chianti Classico Wine Fair

Grapes growing in the Chianti region

Thursday 7 – Sunday 10: EXPO DEL CHIANTI CLASSICO WINE FAIR.  Piazza Matteotti, Greve in Chianti.  Open on Thursday 5 to 10 pm; Fri. – Sun. from 11 am to 8 pm.  Admission: €15.

Located in the midst of the vineyards, more than 70 Chianti Classico wine producers will set up stands in Greve’s main piazza for four days. Fine wines and specialty food products may be tasted and purchased to take home. Not only can visitors sample wine, but can also talk to the producers themselves, 51 of whom will be on hand. A pavilion will display other vintages from the consortium production zone and sommeliers will provide guided tastings.

Adjacent to the town’s main square, Largo Bino Bini hosts free olive oil, salami, and cheese tastings. As always, there will be live music and local shops open all day until late.

The €15 entry fee gives the visitor a wine glass and a punch card providing seven tastings and a souvenir wine glass. Look out for riserva wines in addition to Vin Santo dessert wine, which cost two punches in the card.  Special guided group tasting events and talks will be held in Greve’s City Hall daily; reservations are necessary by emailing expochianticlassico@gmail.com.

Estates in the area will also welcome visitors for tours of their cellars and personalized wine tastings.  A number of free guided walks in the Chianti countryside are also offered; for information send an email to info@discoverychianti.com.
