Saturday May 30 & Sunday May 31: CANTINE APERTE (OPEN VINEYARDS & CELLARS) throughout Tuscany.
Italy’s most important wine festival, Cantine Aperte, a national event started in 1993, has traditionally been held on the last Sunday in May. This year, due to its increasing popularity, the festival is planned for both the last Saturday and Sunday in May. On this weekend more than 75 Tuscan wineries, from Pistoia to Poggibonsi, open their doors and cellars inviting the public to taste the famous Italian fruits of the vine.
During Cantine Aperte weekend wine aficionados and those who want to learn more about wine can tour the Tuscan countryside sampling reds, whites and bubblies. Some vintners offer guided tours of the cellars describing the various steps behind the creation of a bottle of wine and others may invite guests into the vineyards to learn about methods of cultivation. A great opportunity to visit some of the smaller producers whose wine is not usually found on supermarket shelves, Cantine Aperte attracts Italians and tourists alike to wine regions all over Italy.
