A Riderless Horse, Remorex, Wins August 16 Siena Palio

Initially mounted by “Tittia” (Giovanni Atzeni, winner of six Palio races), Remorex, a nine-year-old horse without a jockey, managed to nudge victory by a nose for Selva in a thrilling photo finish at the August 16, 2019 Siena Palio.

Halfway through the August 16 Palio, “Tittia” fell off Remorex while rounding a curve.  The horse continued relentlessly, and in the last few seconds moved from fourth place to first on an inside track parallel to “Brio” (Andrea Mari) who was competing for the Bruco district.  The race was so close that the Bruco neighborhood rejoiced for several minutes until an official unfurled the Selva flag to remove any doubts as to who was the winner.

Remorex had also won, again with no jockey (“scosso” is the term) the special October 2018 Palio that marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
