This summer’s Tuscan photo festival presents “The Grammar of the Light” in the heart of the metalliferous hills of Massa Marittima. The festival brings to light a distinct, site-specific style of photography called “Painting with Light,” while also incorporating jazz, and providing free youth educational workshops.
“Painting with Light” is a movement started by Professor Riccardo Zipoli at the University of California. The technique involves drawing on an undeveloped photo with a lightweight instrument in a dark environment, over a longer-than-average exposure time.
Additionally, Samata Buglia will present a performance that combines the photographs of Ival Falardi and jazz saxophonist Stefano Cocco Cantini. The festival is organized by the municipality of Massa Marittima with the support of the region of Tuscany and the collaboration of Massa Marittima Photo Group. (Magenta intern rae knopik)
