Cold & Snow Arriving in Tuscany

A weather alert for wind, cold and snow has been issued for Tuscany from Thursday evening, December 13 to 6 pm on December 14.  Several inches of snow already cover the ground in the Chianti region and Siena; schools will remain closed in Chianciano Terme.

Snow is forecast in the Mugello, the Casentino, the Val di Sieve, the Valtiberina and the hills around Florence, Prato, Pistoia, and Arezzo.  Gusts of strong wind are expected in and around Florence, Prato, Pistoia, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno and Siena.

The ski runs are all open at Abetone, including the bunny slopes and two in Cutigliano; the snow-covered mountain terrain also provides plenty of opportunities to to go snowshoeing.
