
Tuscany’s current governor, Eugenio Giani, was a elected to a serve a second five-year term on October 13. A member of the Democratic Party, which is allied with Five Star Movement and other center-left parties, Giani received 54.6 % of the popular vote. The runner-up is Alessandro Tomasi, the mayor of Pistoia, withi 40.6% of the popular vote, a candidacy supported by the right-wing Brothers of Italy and the Northern League. The popular consensus for the candidate of the far left, Antonella Bundi, was 5%, which will grant her a seat on the government of the regional council. Bundu garnered 10% of the vote in Florence
Only 47 – 48% of eligible voters in the region participated in the two day election (Oct. 12 and 13), a drop of 15% from 2020.
