‘Light Lights’: A Contemporary Art Show in Prato Explores the Power of Illumination

Until Nov. 2: LIGHT LIGHTS. Centro Pecci, viale della Repubblica 277.  Open Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 10 am – 7 pm.

Artist Davide Stucchi’s show was curated by Centro Pecci’s Stefano Collicelli Cagol and  explores the subversive power of light, especially half-light, in underscoring the absences that shape life.

Light Lights as a title is a play on words: the adjective ‘light’ here refers both to light heartedness and as a source of illumination: Stucchi’s aim is to showcase the playful, daydream-like nature of the everyday. The artist makes playful use of a variety of types of  light, whether that be purple lamplight, unlit, cloth-wrapped lamps, everyday objects ravelled  in fairy lights, and bubble wrapped cylindrical beams.

According to the curator, this variety allows Stucchi to “draw out the absurd and unseen details of daily life” as well as to change how viewers perceive both the space and  their own presence as they move through the exhibition.
