Gucci Killer Dies After Second Crime

The assassin of Maurizio Gucci s (1948 – 1995), Benedetto Ceraulo, recently released from prison, died in a Pisa hospital; after shooting his son, he turned the  gun on himself.
Initially convicted to a life sentence for homicide in 1998, the jail term was reduced to just over 28 years in appeals court, and further reduced in light of good conduct.  Two years ago, Ceraulo returned to live in the province of Pisa from Tuscany’s penitentiary island, Gorgona.
The 63-year-old was furious that his son, Gaetano, had caused a deep scratch on his car, which culminated in an argument in the yard of his home in Santa Maria a Monte (province of Pisa).  His son was not seriously injured after receiving a facial wound.
Ceraulo was convicted of killing Gucci after the entrepreneur’s estranged wife, Patrizia Reggiani, had promised him 600 million lire (over 300,000 euros) to do so.  Reggiani was jailed from from 2000 to 2016.
The “House of Gucci,” biopic (2021) starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, illustrates Reggiani’s and Gucci’s relationship, marriage and family life, culminating in the murder.  Maurizio Gucci was the grandson of the founder of the Florence luxury fashion brand, now owned by Kering.
