Tastings & Tours: Greve’s 2022 Chianti Classico Expo

A wine cellar

Thursday 8 – Sunday 11: EXPO DEL CHIANTI CLASSICO WINE FAIR.  Piazza Matteotti, Greve in Chianti. Open on Thursday 5 to 10 pm, Friday 11 am – 10 pm, Saturday 11 am – 8 pm, Sunday 11 am – 9 pm.  Admission: € 15.

Located in the midst of the vineyards that produce the world-famous Chianti Classico, the picturesque town of Greve transforms into a hub of activity for the four days during the Expo del Chianti Classico fair.  More than 60 different Chianti Classico wine producers will set up stands in Greve’s main piazza, and not only can the visitor sample wine, but can also talk to the producers themselves.  Fine wines and specialty food products may be purchased to take home.  A pavilion will display additional vintages from the consortium production zone and sommeliers will provide guided tastings.

Adjacent to the town’s main square, Largo Bini Bini hosts free olive oil, salami, and cheese tastings. As always, the Expo will feature live music and local shops will remain open all day until late.

The €15 entry fee gives the visitor a wine glass and a punch card providing seven tastings and a souvenir wine glass. Look out for riserva wines and Vin Santo, which cost two punches in the card.
