Stormy Weather Forecast for Tuscany

A steep drop in temperature, strong winds, heavy rain and even snow are expected to arrive in Tuscany in the early hours of November 13 according to an “arancione” (weather alert) bulletin issued by the regional government authorities.  The alert and advisory have been extended to midnight, November 14.

Snow will accumulate at altitudes beginning at 400 meters (1300 ft) to create an early winter wonderland in the Apennine mountains in the provinces of Florence, Arezzo and Pistoia.  Some snow will also fall in the Mugello Valley, the Apuan mountains, around Volterra and in the Monte Amiata area as well as in Val Tiburina.

Winds from the north may reach 100 km per hour in the Apennines and on the coast, with resulting high tides.  To read more in Italian, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
