Reggello’s Olive Oil Festival 2016

Reggello’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil Festival is returning to the town square, piazzale Aldo Moro, from October 29 through November 1.  Hours are 10:30 – 6:30 pm.  A taste of the harvesting experience, one that has been a source of Italian communal tradition and sustainability for centuries, is freely available along with bottles olive oil for sale at stands set up by local producers.

Sunday, October 30 will feature an organic and crafts market, a children’s play area in addition to free guided visits to one of the earliest works by the Renaissance artist Masaccio, a Madonna and Child triptych, is tucked away in a museum next to the church of San Giovenale in nearby Cascia (4:30 pm).  On Tuesday, November 1, a guided walk among the olive groves will be offered at 9 am to complement the traditional competitive 33k (20 mile) race Corso dell’Olio Firenze-Reggello .  The festival also features live music, an art exhibition and more.
