History Comes Alive at Cortonantiquaria Antiques Show

Treasures abound at the Cortonantiquaria. The 55th edition of the Cortona antique fair, the oldest antique fair in Italy, runs this year from August 25 to September 9. Promoted by the city of Cortona with the support of the Banca Popolare di Cortona, the Chamber of Commerce, the Nicodemo Settembrini Foundation, 28 antique merchants and vendors will spread their wares amidst three floors of Cortona’s Palazzo Vagnotti.

The 18th century palace will be transformed into an antique menagerie; each room host to a plethora of exquisite objects. The ground floor will host five vendors. Sift through sparkling estate jewelry at Elisabetta Tomei Gioielli D’Epoca, modernist and post-modernist paintings at Chifary Art Gallery, and ancient art objects at Fabbriarte Alto Antiquariato. On the first floor of Palazzo Vagnotti, there will be 11 dealers. Peruse rare sculptures and oil paintings at Antiquities RB Objects of Art and Teilo Johnson, and jewel-inlay boxes at Number 7 Antiques. On the second floor, there will be 12 vendors. Browse ancient sculptures at ARS Antiqua SRL, 18th century oil paintings at Antiques La Pieve SRL, and colorful early prints at Furlanetto Stampe Antiche.

In conjunction with the antiques fair, there will be wine tastings and samples of traditional cuisine. The city will also offer special tour packages of Cortona’s museums, such as the MAEC Museum. A treat to explore precious objects in a historic Tuscan hillside town, Cortonantiquaria is an event not to be missed. (isabelle blank)
