UNESCO Garden Event in Pienza

A special edition of the annual event “Pienza and Flowers” will take place in this Tuscan town through May 15.  The square in front of the Cathedral will be transformed into an Italian garden in tribute to the fact that Pienza is an UNESCO world heritage site thanks to its quintessential Renaissance architecture.  The UNESCO homage is visible again in the courtyard of Palazzo Piccolomini where a composition of flower petals on May 7 – 8 recreates significant UNESCO world heritage sites throughout the world.

Guided tours of local gardens are also available, in addition to a plant and flower market set in the local streets and at piazza Dante Alighieri.  To read more in Italian, and to see a photo gallery, visit Florence’s La Repubblica news site.
