February 25 Air Travel Strike

A 24-hour airline strike on February 25 has been announced by the trade unions representing personnel employed by two Italian airlines: Alitalia and Air Italy.  Air travel on that day is only guaranteed for passengers booked on flights departing or arriving between 7 and 10 am and from 6 to 9 pm.

Alitalia has cancelled over 350 flights scheduled on Tuesday in addition to a number of others on the evening of February 24 and in the early morning of February 26.  The company has committed to rebooking passengers on flights during Tuesday’s guaranteed time slots or the next day.

This is the third strike called by Alitalia since July 2019 — after a number of years in the red with resulting layoffs, the air transport company is for sale.  The trade unions which decided the action are the Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Trasporto aereo.  Air Italy is in the process of closure.
