A Pet’s Owner’s ‘Cat’astrophe near Arezzo

We always expect our furry companions to be a tad curious, but sometimes that quality can leave them in some hot and sticky situations. In the summer month of June, no one wants to be trapped in a car, but as a cat with a thick layer of fur covering their entire little bodies, it can be very dangerous.

A couple traveling on the A1 highway in Tuscany decided to make a stop at the Badia al Pino service plaza, near Arezzo. After a very long car ride, the couple let their cats out of their carrier inside the vehicle to allow them to stretch like their owners did outside. There was no need to lock the doors, as they were securely closed.  Once the couple felt refreshed and ready to get back on the road, they forgot one little thing: the keys were in the car. Normally, this should not be an issue with two adults traveling, but with a turn of a handle, and no friends around to play a cordial prank, no incidences should occur, but the cats had another plan.

In the midst of jumping over seats, exploring the nooks and crannies of the automobile, a little paw or foot stepped on the automatic closure buttons, locking their owners out. The Arezzo firemen had to be called to allow the passengers to get back in the car. To avoid a possible catastrophe, remember to always take your keys with you getting out of the car. (jennifer klammer)
